Sonata

1st 5 notes provide an important motive which is further broken down into the first two notes, a 2-note doward leap. A counter line introduces a dotted rhythm which is heard in numerous places throughout the movement. It represents a sort of medium gait between the 8th note main theme and the galloping 32 note pulses introduced in the 2nd key area. Wonderful peasant dance variation of the main theme appears as a high plateau in the development section. Its strongly accented drones sound a fresh and lively atmosphere which bursts into dance when joined by the rhythm of the dotted motive. It suspends the development in this euphoric dance until it transitions back into the grounded recapitulation.
