2. Andante

Form

Sonata
Much like the ternary form of a Minuet and Trio
exposition is a closed binary form
recapitulation is like a D. C. in a Minuet
development is like the Trio

Theme (F major)

2nd Reprise - "B" - Development (F minor)

2nd Theme (A-flat major)

Notes

staggered imitation: ah, exquisite.

binary exposition, 6/8 gives it the near expectation of a minuet

a lighter sonata, deceptive but very satisfying: light as a minuet and rich/divergent as a sonata

dev: slashing

major variation of theme (new theme? a new melody?) with a minor refrain?

slashing

floating back into the exposition

wonderful ending

in the relative major of D-minor, F-major. Warmer. Happier. Softer.

Berger calls this an ABA form. Need to look at the key modulations in the beginning, but it looks like a simple binary form. B introduces much new melodic material so it is like a contrasting section more than a development. Not sure.
