|
The books listed in the earsense bibliography have provided us with historical and technical information, conceptual and aesthetic food for thought, inspiration, passion and intelligence. They are listed as academic and background references, and they are all strongly recommended as excellent sources for your own further investigations. They are very much the shoulders upon which earsense stands. Our gratitude and appreciation in inexpressible.
They are grouped according to the earsense features or main areas of study: musical mindfulness, the texture of counterpoint and the form of the sonata. We have endeavored to provide enough data to enable you to locate the precise publication. Some of the books are out of print but may be found as used treasures on the web, in a good library, or hidden in your favorite used book haunt. Others are currently available, perhaps even in newer editions. The simplest means of purchasing them would probably be through Amazon (they feature used books and hard to find searching services). They all huddle together, tattered and love-worn in the cherished core library at earsense.
Our intention is to provide a book review for each, eventually. Certain titles already have some commentary. They are not the only sources we have used, but they are the chief ones. Once again, we confidently recommend them all as excellent sources. Please note, however, that they each have a different style, a different level of sophistication, a different audience in mind. Some are highly technical, others are instantly approachable by the untutored. It is our desire at earsense to gather their respective knowledge and insight and present them in our own form, synthesis and style. Ideally, earsense is self-sufficient. Let it be proclaimed, once again, however, that earsense would have been utterly impossible without them.
