  • allegretto—moderately quick tempo. slower than allegro but faster than andante
  • andante [I]—moderately slow tempo (e.g. walking). Faster than adagio but slower than allegretto
  • Bordone—drone bass; a very low frequency organ stop
  • canto [I], canti [pl]—air, song, melody, singing
  • chamber music, Kammermusik [G], musique de chambre [F], musica da camera [I], musica cameralis [L]—"Classical Music" for a small ensemble, generally 8 or fewer players with a canonical emphasis on 3-6 players. explore

  • perpetuum mobile, moto perpetuo, perpetual motion—music that progresses with a steady stream of pulses, typically with a fast tempo and a feeling of breathless, endless motion
  • pizzicato—plucked (with the fingers) rather than bowed
  • presto—very fast, more so than allegro.

  • serenade, serenada, serenata [I], sérénade [F]—A suite of movements like a divertimento with similar connotations of lightheartedness, pleasure and relative calm with an emphasis on lyricism and often beginning with a march. Historically evokes the evening, outdoors, an honorific or amorous tribute, especially from a suitor to a lover in a window or balcony.   • solo—a piece or section of a piece featuring a single instrumental part. Often, this implies one instrument alone but may indicate a soloist with accompaniment (e.g. continuo) especially in a section within a larger work for ensemble
