Tristia (La Vallée d'Obermann) for Piano Trio, S. 378c (S. 723)

(for violin, cello and piano)
Duration: 16 minutes (approximately)
Published: 1880 (age 68-69)
Note: Tristia is a piano trio "arrangement" of Vallée d'Obermann, the sixth piece of Liszt's collection for solo piano, Années de Pèlerinage, Première année: Suisse (pub 1855) which draws on works from his earlier Album d'un Voyageur (pub. c.1842). Liszt's student Edward Lassen made the arrangement followed by Liszt's own edits. As such, there are apparently three versions with the final version three being the most frequently recorded. It seems the work goes by two different catalogue numbers: S.378c and S.723.
