allegretto—moderately quick tempo. slower than allegro but faster than andante
Arabesque [F], Arabeske [G]—From the French, literally "in the Arabic style." Evocative title for a character piece or movement with a variety of associations including Arabic architecture, design and music, possibly Turkish (e.g Arabic) as well as classical Ballet (e.g. the arabesque posture). Most generally, the term suggests intricate, florid design featuring the interweaving of lines with flourishes and embellishments. Famously used by Schumann, Debussy and others.
